Director of Inclusive Research and Societal Impact

Job SummaryThe Director of Inclusive Research and Societal Impact will support the growth of the broad research portfolio of Purdue University by empowering Purdue researchers and partners to connect fundamental scientific and engineering advances in manners that assist in transforming society through broader impact.
To achieve this aim, the Director will be a central point of contact for Purdue researchers for integrating best practice education and workforce development initiatives in the context of inclusive research practices and programs, environmental and social justice initiatives, and interactions with external entities who can support and propagate these efforts.
Additionally, the Director of Inclusive Research will cultivate sustainable, long-term partnerships with critical institutions such as Minority Serving Institutions, Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Tribal Colleges and Universities, and non-profit and governmental organizations.
Working with the Associate Vice President for Strategic Interdisciplinary Research, the Executive Vice President for Research, and Proposal Strategy and Development specialists, the Director will play key roles in the development of large, center-level proposals while also providing content development and mentorship on smaller efforts as well.
It is anticipated that the Director will help grow the breadth of the research portfolio at Purdue while also providing a means for researchers to develop inclusive research practices and workforce development integration.
This position will be hybrid (25% on-site).
Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop a framework for the sustainable success of broad societal impact of the university's breakthrough scientific and engineering research, craft and execute plans to ensure inclusive research practices and workforce development programming across campus, and engage internal and external partners to move towards addressing these aims.
This will include the following
Responsibilities:
Provide guidance to multiple research center team proposals at a single time while executing the inclusive research vision of the Executive Vice President for Research Collaborate with all branches of the Strategic Interdisciplinary Research wing to ensure that proposals, especially large center proposals, have societal impact and inclusive research practices at their core Engage with external partners to build strong, long-lasting relationships such that these efforts can be mobilized as opportunities arise in terms of centers and federal funding initiatives Manage relationships with sponsors, collaborators, and others to facilitate the effective operation of research at Purdue Collaborate with the ODIB at Purdue to ensure smooth communication between this office and the Office of Research Mentor and train faculty and staff on aspects of research inclusivity, workforce development integration, and making societal impact Lead large-scale institutional initiatives in support of the overall strategic research operations at Purdue Provide leadership in identifying and communicating funding opportunities, oversee continuous process improvement, and provide strategic vision and support for research effort Communicate and collaborate with university executives and leaders across the research enterprise.
Address and resolve issues and concerns from leaders, campus administrators, faculty, and sponsors.
Resolve issues both internally and externally with sponsors and collaborators Mentor faculty members and researchers in terms of developing sustainable and inclusive research practices, especially in terms of research groups and large research centers Coordinate with other branches within the Office of Research, institute directors, deans, department heads and faculty to develop and implement training programs/workshops relating to the advancement of inclusive research and broader societal impact QualificationsRequired:
Bachelor's degree in a business, science, or research discipline or other relevant discipline Six (6) years of experience working in higher education, business operations, or program/project management in a research setting and/or on a large team Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered Demonstrable competency in inclusive research Aptitude in the proposal writing process for federal and foundation grants Excellent interpersonal, public speaking, and writing skills Ability to network within and outside of large institutions is necessary Preferred:
