ly/3Q7YcUL Job Summary The successful candidate for the dispatcher position will be responsible for receiving and prioritizing information and request for police, fire, medical, or university services assistance and to disseminate the information or requests efficiently and appropriately.
Dispatchers retrieve, process and enter sensitive and confidential information from multiple electronic sources and therefore are responsible for maintaining professional standards of confidentiality to meet security regulations.
This position requires the ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and to complete them correctly and effectively.
Dispatchers must have effective oral and written communication skills as well as excellent listening skills in order to handle requests for service from phone calls, coworkers and the general public.
Dispatchers also serve as a back-up emergency services activator for all other agencies and are responsible for activating the Purdue University emergency Alert notification.
Required High school diploma/GED Three years of experience in any of the following:
strong computer use with a variety of software, customer service experience, and/or public safety experience (EMT, Fire Department, etc.
) Must have a demonstrated consistent use of good judgment Ability to handle highly confidential information, using discretion at all times and work effectively under stressful situations Must have excellent oral and written communication skills Must act in a professional manner with the ability to exercise tact and diplomacy as needed to provide support to a diverse work group and customer base Excellent listening and comprehension skills Ability to be assertive when needed Ability to work in a fast paced environment with the ability to multi-task several job responsible at one time Ability to work independently as well as in team environment Ability to obtain and hold certification in Indiana Data and Communications System (IDACS), the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), Criminal Justice Information Security Regulations (CJIS) and Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) Ability to work a flexible schedule - including night shift Cognitive map reading ability and the ability to perform multiple tasks in a proficient manner Must have a good working knowledge and a high level of proficiency with Windows based operations such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook Ability to type with a high level of accuracy Ability to lift and carry up to 10 lbs.
